The 2008 USTA League Season is underway at Kirby Park. We have teams
competing at the Men's 4.0 level of play. Women's teams are also competing at the 3.5 and 4.0 levels. If it's
league competition that you want, there is no better place in Northeastern Pa. than Kirby Park. NO other
local club can boast the variety of competition OR the results either. Our mens's teams have been perennial league winners, having advanced to
the Princeton Sectionals 20 of the past 23 years. We even baost a National Championship Men's team and a third
place Women's team (Our upcoming history page will contain more about Kirby Park's rich tennis history). Just as a sample, in 1987, no fewer than five separate Kirby Park teams qualified for the Sectionals.
While other clubs "claim" to have league programs, Kirby Park has an extremely successful league program that is
second to none. League results can
be found by following the USTA link on our links page. For more information on USTA League tennis, contact MSTA/EPD Men's Adult League Coordinator, Joe
McKeown at KIRBY PARK MEN'S 4.0
Team wins EPD league After a slow start to the season, which saw the Kirby men drop their initial
two matches to Northwood and Westend by identical 3-2 scores, the team rallied to finish the season with a fine 6-2 record.
They avenged their early season losses by beating Northwood 5-0 in the re-match and Westend 4-1 in the return encounter. Even
with all the late season success, the team had to hope that Northwood slipped up. Saucon Valley turned the trick in a rain-delayed
match that played out over an entire week. (Saucon Valley were the recipents of some adult beverages from the obviously relieved
Kirby men). It's on to Princeton again! The Sectional playoffs begin August 23 at Veterans'
Park near Princeton NJ. Team members include
Chris Barclay, Capt; P J Marranca, Drew Slocum, Rick Nesler, Mark Dryfoos, Kevin Kolodgie, Jason Sallemi, Joe McKeown,
Rick Barletta, Don Cassetori, Marc Smulowitz, and John Mack. Good
Luck guys!!
